Artist Biography

Catman

Catman, a prominent street artist hailing from Whitstable, Kent, is renowned for his intricate stencil work and vibrant paintings, showcasing a blend of fine scalpel skills and architectural inspiration. His artistic journey began during his studies in architectural model making at The University of Creative Arts Rochester (UCA), where he honed his meticulous attention to detail—a skill now evident in his street art compositions.

Returning to Canterbury UCA to pursue Fine Art studies reignited Catman's passion for painting, leading to the creation of street art pieces celebrated for their remarkable level of detail. In April 2015, Catman gained widespread attention when ITV News featured his mural painted overnight on a homeless shelter—anonymity shrouding his identity, yet amplifying curiosity.

Catman's talent has earned him recognition on the international stage, with finalist listings in the prestigious Stencil Art Prize in Sydney for consecutive years. His work stands alongside renowned artists like Banksy, Alec Monopoly, and Stik, attesting to his growing influence in the art world.

The year 2017 marked a milestone for Catman with his exhibition at the Scope Art Show in Miami, where his collection garnered a sell-out success. His first solo show, "Painting Out Loud," in June 2018, showcased a diverse range of artworks, including canvas pieces and sculptures, captivating audiences and igniting global interest.
In a testament to his artistic prowess, Catman received a private commission in Florence, Italy, to repaint his iconic 'The Usual Suspects' mural at full scale, now adorning the walls alongside renaissance masterpieces. Notably, several Catman paintings, including 'The Usual Suspects,' grace the esteemed Heddon Street Kitchen of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
Catman's art serves as a poignant reflection of contemporary issues, as seen in his witty portrayal of Boris Johnson and tribute to frontline workers during the Coronavirus pandemic, garnering media attention from leading publications like The Guardian, The Mirror, and ITV News.

Continuing to push artistic boundaries, Catman's recent exhibition at Fulham Town Hall showcased his vibrant collective of artworks, marking a triumphant return to the art world amidst the easing of Covid restrictions. As Catman's influence continues to grow, his captivating creations promise to leave an indelible mark on the global art scene.
